I use one primary lumber store, Viking, to procure my materials when possible. Here I get my MDO Exterior plywood, paint, and almost everything else I need beside fine Art materials. Developing a relationship with a business allows you to have questions answered more quickly, as well as being sure you are given the best materials possible.

Polyester Canvas - Jerrys Art-O-Rama

This product is not cheap, BUT is impervious to water and weather once properly applied in interior or exterior conditions and varnished with a UV Varnish.

Benjamin Moore Stix® Waterborne Bonding Primer

One of these all around acrylic primers available. Can be tinted to some degree to not be stark white and water base so easy clean up. Premium-quality, acrylic-urethane primer with unparalleled adhesion to the most challenging surfaces, including glossy tile, PVC, vinyl, plastic, glass, glazed block, glossy paint, pre-coated siding, fiberglass, and galvanized metals. Cures in temperatures as low as 35°F and can be top coated with almost any product.

Beeck Mineral Paints

The principle of silicate paints, also known as mineral paints, was first discovered in the second half of the 19th century and quickly became very popular. Murals done with mineral paints last even longer than real frescos and cannot be harmed by pollution. The binder is liquid quartz (potassium water-glass) but the cohesion of the paint to the wall is brought about by adding a fixative. The pigments fuse with the specially prepared surface to a siliceous substance. Mineral paints consist of water-soluble pigments and a medium, which has to be added in order to obtain durability, lustre and resistance to wear. Mineral painting is generally understood to be a technique using a silicate basis, characterised by the fact that the pigment and the binder fuse together to form a siliceous substance, i.e. a substance with open pores. This means that a regulated exchange of air and moisture can take place; the substance can breath.  

One Shot Oil Base Paint

For interiors any good quality oil base Artist paint will suffice, but for outdoors if oil base was considered a product like One Shot Pinstriping Paint may be what you are looking for. This is an automotive/sign paint and made to hold up in outdoor conditions. With over 44 colors and tinting bases you can use this like any oil paint to create soft blends that are more difficult with water base paints.

Benjamin Moore Aura Acrylic Wall Paint

Most Projects work well with Benjamin Moore’s top end Acrylic House Paint. It is similar cost to Golden mural paint below but does allow you to have any color mixed to your specifications. It has a bit less pigment load but covers well and is self priming.

A great resource for exterior mural work including wall preparation, best exterior pigment use, and proper sealing/varnishing.

Modern Master Theme Paint

This company makes great products although I have yet to use the exterior theme paint. Matt Willy of The Good Of The Hive did use this for his Bangor, Maine 3-story mural and swear by it. Can be ordered in some premix colors and mixed to any color at a verified dealer (who has their colorfast pigment system). Unfortunately there are none here in Maine with closest I know of in Massachusetts.

Mural Spray Paint - Montana Colors

I have Artist friends who swear by this company and their spray paints. They also carry a wiode selection of other tools including street markers that could be really fun to try! Dick Blick and other online retailers also carry nice selections of spray paints for murals as well as Artist and Craftsmen in Portland, ME.

Modern Master MasterClear Varnishes

Hands down the BEST varnish I have used yet for interior and exterior murals and related projects.

MuralShield Anti-Graffiti Varnish

One of many companies making these varnishes for high traffic environments where vandalism may occur.

Mural Brushes - Dick Blick

My favorite large Artist brushes for the price. Also come in white synthetic and natural bristle.

Art/Mural Brushes - Dick Blick

More expensive than the above brushes but great quality. My favorite so far.

StencilEase Custom Stencils

My favorite recourse for custom stencils as well as stencil materials. You can create and download your own files or they have a custom department that can work with you for an extra charge. They are great at answering questions and I have loved every stencil to date.
